RAINWATER HARVESTING & USE

Design & Guidance Services

Rainwater Reuse SystemIn the United States and worldwide the technology for capture, conveyance, filtration, storage and use of rainwater has made significant advances in recent years and will continue to make progress moving forward. Smart Water Solutions team of professionals can provide simple residential or more complex commercial/industrial rainwater harvesting system configurations or design a system that best meets the needs of the project and achieves the best possible water quality.

Examples of some but not all of the critical questions one may ask themselves to ensure a proper designed rainwater harvesting system are as follows:

  • What is the average annual rainfall for the area?
  • For what purpose is the filtered rainwater desired to be re-used? Indoor versus Outdoor use can become a significant cost factor.
  • Are there local or regional permitting requirements with regards to stormwater runoff or surface discharge from the subject property?
  • Does the owner/designer prefer above ground or below ground storage of the rainwater? (Note: above ground storage is typically less expensive than below ground)
  • Is there heavy vegetation in the vicinity of the building which would result in heavy leaf and debris loading? Or is the building in an area where there will be minimal leaf and debris during the year?

Rainwater Collection and StorageThese and many other critical questions must be answered in order to tailor each design to the needs of the specific project.

At Smart Water Solutions Group we can assist you with your rainwater harvesting project by conducting one or several of the following tasks:

  • Perform a water audit of the entire property to advise the owner of various methods to conserve water
  • Investigate all the site specifics and considerations prior to beginning the system design
  • Determine the optimum system sizing and selection of the correct components adequate for the proposed water demand and intended use
  • If necessary, perform a subsurface investigation to identify soil, bedrock and/or shallow water table conditions which could significantly increase the cost if underground storage is being considered
  • Identify all underground or above ground utilities that may be disturbed during construction (many utilities are not marked within the property boundaries by local locating services unless specifically requested)
  • Prepare a brief report including system design layout and recommendations to achieve optimum system results for many years to come
  • Project management, assistance with procurement of components and strategic advice
  • System Installation oversight with a qualified individual to assist you or your contractor during the project
